142 Investigations and reports by [F2 CMA] U.K.

(1) [F3 Where the Secretary of State makes a restricted PI reference or a full PI reference, the CMA] shall prepare a report on the reference and take action in relation to it under section 143(1) or (3) [F4 or (as the case may be) 143A(2) or (3)] within the period permitted by section 144.

(2) The report shall, in particular, contain—

(a) the decisions of the [F5 CMA] on the questions which it is required to answer by virtue of section 141 [F6 or (as the case may be) 141A];

(b) its reasons for its decisions; F7 ...

(c) such information as the [F5 CMA] considers appropriate for facilitating a proper understanding of those questions and of its reasons for its decisions[F8 ; and

(d) in the case of a report in relation to a full PI reference in respect of which the Secretary of State appointed a public interest expert, a summary of the views of the expert.]

[F9 (2A) A summary of the views of a public interest expert in a report under this section shall be approved by the expert before action is taken in relation to the report under section 143A(2) or (3).]

(3) The [F5 CMA] shall carry out such investigations as it considers appropriate for the purposes of preparing a report under this section.
