Administration of drugs in Schedules 2, 3, 4 and 5U.K.

7.—(1) Any person may administer to another any drug specified in Schedule 5 [F1except nitrous oxide].

(2) A doctor or dentist may administer to a patient any drug specified in Schedule 2, 3 or 4.

(3) Any person other than a doctor or dentist may administer to a patient, in accordance with the directions of a doctor or dentist, any drug specified in Schedule 2, 3 or 4 [F2, and for these purposes the circumstances in which a person is to be regarded as administering in accordance with the directions of a doctor or dentist include where that person is acting in accordance with a patient group direction].

[F3(4) Notwithstanding the provisions of paragraph (3), a nurse independent prescriber or a pharmacist independent prescriber may administer to a patient, without the directions of a doctor or dentist, any controlled drug which such nurse independent prescriber or such pharmacist independent prescriber respectively may prescribe under regulation 6B provided it is administered for a purpose for which it may be prescribed under that regulation.]

[F4(5) Notwithstanding the provisions of paragraph (3), any person may administer to a patient in accordance with the specific directions of a nurse independent prescriber or a pharmacist independent prescriber any controlled drug which such nurse independent prescriber or such pharmacist independent prescriber respectively may prescribe under regulation 6B provided it is administered for a purpose for which it may be prescribed under that regulation.]

[F5(6) Notwithstanding the provisions of paragraph (3), a supplementary prescriber acting under and in accordance with the terms of a clinical management plan may administer to a patient, without the directions of a doctor or dentist, any drug specified in Schedule 2, 3 or 4.

(7) Notwithstanding the provisions of paragraph (3), any person may administer to a patient, in accordance with the directions of a supplementary prescriber acting under and in accordance with the terms of a clinical management plan, any drug specified in Schedule 2, 3 or 4.]

[F6(8) Notwithstanding the provisions of paragraph (3), a registered physiotherapist independent prescriber or registered chiropodist independent prescriber may administer to a patient without the directions of a doctor or a dentist, any controlled drug which such registered physiotherapist independent prescriber or registered chiropodist independent prescriber respectively may prescribe under regulation 6C provided it is administered for a purpose for which it may be prescribed under that regulation and by the method by which it was prescribed to be administered.

(9) Notwithstanding the provisions of paragraph (3), any person may administer to a patient, in accordance with the specific instructions of a registered physiotherapist independent prescriber or registered chiropodist independent prescriber, any controlled drug which such registered physiotherapist independent prescriber or registered chiropodist independent prescriber may prescribe under regulation 6C, provided it is administered for a purpose for which it may be prescribed under that regulation and by the method by which it was prescribed to be administered.]

[F7(10) Notwithstanding the provisions of paragraph (3), a paramedic independent prescriber or a therapeutic radiographer independent prescriber may administer to a patient without the directions of a doctor or a dentist, any controlled drug which such paramedic independent prescriber or such therapeutic radiographer independent prescriber may prescribe under regulation 6D provided it is administered for a purpose for which it may be prescribed under that regulation and by the method by which it was prescribed to be administered.

(11) Notwithstanding the provisions of paragraph (3), any person may administer to a patient in accordance with the specific instructions of a paramedic independent prescriber or a therapeutic radiographer independent prescriber, any controlled drug which such paramedic independent prescriber or such therapeutic radiographer independent prescriber may prescribe under regulation 6D, provided it is administered for a purpose for which it may be prescribed under that regulation and by the method by which it was prescribed to be administered.]
