Coming into force in accordance with regulation 1(2)
The Secretary of State makes these Regulations in exercise of the powers conferred by section 5 of the European Parliamentary Elections Act 20021 and section 26(2) of the Political Parties and Elections Act 20092 and being a Minister designated3 for the purposes of section 2(2) of the European Communities Act 19724 in relation to the rights of citizens of the Union to stand as candidates at a European Parliamentary election, in exercise of the powers conferred by that section.
The Secretary of State has consulted the Electoral Commission pursuant to section 7(1) and (2)(a) of the Political Parties, Elections and Referendums Act 20005.
In accordance with section 13(2) of the European Parliamentary Elections Act 2002 and paragraph 2(2) of Schedule 2 to the European Communities Act 19726 a draft of these Regulations has been laid before and approved by a resolution of each House of Parliament.
