Advice and assistance in respect of orphan sources4

The relevant person must ensure that specialised technical advice and assistance is promptly made available to persons who—

a

are not normally involved in operations subject to radiation protection requirements, and

b

suspect the presence of an orphan source.

The relevant person must ensure that the primary aim of such advice and assistance is—

a

the safety of the source, and

b

protecting the public and workers from radiation.

The relevant person means—

a

in relation to the protection of workers, the Secretary of State;

b

in relation to the protection of the public (other than workers)—

i

in England, the Secretary of State;

ii

in Wales, the Welsh Ministers.
