Coming into force

The Secretary of State makes these Rules in exercise of the powers conferred by paragraph 18(8) of Part 3 of Schedule 12 to the Local Government Act 19721 and by section 36(1) and (2A) of the Representation of the People Act 19832.

The Secretary of State has consulted the Electoral Commission in accordance with section 7(1) and (2)(d) of the Political Parties, Elections and Referendums Act 20003.
