Amendment of regulation 3 (interpretation)

3.  In regulation 3 (interpretation)—

(a)after the definition of “the 2006 Act” insert—

address claimed as the qualifying address”, in relation to a person applying to be registered, means the address in respect of which the person is applying to be registered;;

(b)after the definition of “data” insert—

declaration of local connection” has the same meaning as in section 7B(1) of the 1983 Act(1);;

(c)after the definitions of “local elector” and “local election” insert—

mental hospital” has the meaning given in section 7(6) of the 1983 Act(2);;

(d)after the definition of “overseas elector” insert—

previous registration condition” has the same meaning as in section 1A(2) of the 1985 Act(3);

previous residence condition” has the same meaning as in section 1A(3) of the 1985 Act;;

(e)after the definition of “registration officer” insert—

renewal declaration” has the same meaning as in section 1E of the 1985 Act(4);.

Section 7B was inserted by section 6 of the Representation of the People Act 2000 (c. 2) and amended by section 14(1)(a)(ii) of the Northern Ireland (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 2014 and paragraph 1(3)(a) of Schedule 8 to the Elections Act 2022 . There are other amendments to section 7B, but none is relevant. For the meaning of “the 1983 Act”, see regulation 3(1) of S.I. 2008/1741.

Section 7 was substituted by section 4 of the Representation of the People Act 2000. There are amendments to section 7(6), but none is relevant.
