11 Interpretation.E+W+S

(2)In this Act, unless the context otherwise requires, the following expressions have the following meanings, that is to say—

  • dentist” means a person registered in the dentists register kept under the [F3Dentists Act 1984 F4...;]

  • [F5doctor ” means a registered medical practitioner within the meaning of Schedule 1 to the Interpretation Act 1978 ]

  • [F6Great Britain” includes the territorial sea of the United Kingdom other than the part adjacent to Northern Ireland;]

  • [F6“licence” (other than in the expression “recognised non-GB licence” and in section 4B) means a licence granted under section 4A;]

  • local authority” means—

    (a)

    in relation to England F7. . ., the council of a county [F8metropolitan district], . . . F9 or London borough or the Common Council of the City of London,

    (aa)

    [F10in relation to Wales, the council of a county or county borough,] and

    (b)

    [F11 in relation to Scotland, [F12 a council constituted under section 2 of the Local Government etc. (Scotland) Act 1994 ] ; ]

  • F2...

  • [F6member of the general public” has the meaning given in section 3;]

  • [F6mixture” means a mixture or solution composed of two or more substances;]

  • person lawfully conducting a retail pharmacy business” shall be construed in accordance with section 69 of the M1Medicines Act 1968;

  • [F13pharmacist” means a person registered in Part 1 of the register maintained under article 19 of the Pharmacy Order 2010 (pharmacists other than visiting practitioners);]

  • [F6recognised non-GB licence” has the meaning given in section 4B;]

  • registered pharmacy” has the meaning assigned to it by section 74 of the M2Medicines Act 1968;

  • [F6regulated substance”, “regulated explosives precursor” and “regulated poison” have the meanings given in section 2;]

  • [F6reportable substance”, “reportable explosives precursor” and “reportable poison” have the meanings given in section 2;]

  • retail pharmacy business” has the meaning assigned to it by [F14regulation 8 of the Human Medicines Regulations 2012 (S.I. 2012/1916)] ;

  • F2...

  • [F6substance” means a chemical element and its compounds in the natural state or obtained by any manufacturing process—

    (a)

    including any additive necessary to preserve its stability and any impurity deriving from the process used, but

    (b)

    excluding any solvent that may be separated without affecting the stability of the substance or changing its composition;]

  • veterinary practitioner” means a person registered in the supplementary veterinary register kept under section 8 of the M3Veterinary Surgeons Act 1966;

  • veterinary surgeon” means a person registered in the register of veterinary surgeons kept under section 2 of the M4Veterinary Surgeons Act 1966.

[F15(3)In relation to a regulated substance or a reportable substance, any reference to the substance is a reference to the substance or the mixture, as the case may be.

(4)References in this Act to supplying something include any kind of supply or making available, whether in return for payment or free of charge.]
