Coming into force in accordance with regulation 1
The Minister for the Cabinet Office makes these Regulations in exercise of the powers conferred by sections 8(1), 23(1) and (6) and 24(3) of, and paragraph 21(b) of Schedule 7 to, the European Union (Withdrawal) Act 2018(1).
In accordance with paragraphs 1(3), 15(1) and 16(1) and (2) of Schedule 7 to that Act, a draft of this instrument has been laid before Parliament and approved by a resolution of each House of Parliament.
1. These Regulations may be cited as the European Parliamentary Elections Etc. (Repeal, Revocation, Amendment and Saving Provisions) (United Kingdom and Gibraltar) (EU Exit) (Amendment) Regulations 2019 and come into force on the day after the day on which they are made.
2.—(1) The European Parliamentary Elections Etc. (Repeal, Revocation, Amendment and Saving Provisions) (United Kingdom and Gibraltar) (EU Exit) Regulations 2018(2) are amended as follows.
(2) In regulation 1, for “exit day” substitute “31st December 2020”.
(3) In regulation 6, for “after exit day” substitute “on and after 31st December 2020”.

These Regulations are made in exercise of the powers conferred by sections 8(1), 23(1) and (6) and 24(3) of, and paragraph 21(b) of Schedule 7 to, the European Union (Withdrawal) Act 2018 (c. 16) in order to ensure that legislation concerning the European Parliamentary elections will remain in force long enough for the post-election processes attendant on the holding of the poll on 23 May 2019 to be completed.
These Regulations amend the European Parliamentary Elections Etc. (Repeal, Revocation, Amendment and Saving Provisions) (United Kingdom and Gibraltar) (EU Exit) Regulations 2018 (“the principal regulations”).
Regulation 2(2) and (3) amends regulations 1 and 6 of the principal regulations by substituting “31st December 2020” for “exit day”.
An impact assessment has not been produced for this instrument as no impact on the private or voluntary sector is foreseen.
